1987–2006 Jeep Wrangler YJ/TJ | Small Block Chevrolet Swap | 3-Row Polished Aluminum Radiator The Small Block Chevrolet Has Been Finding Its Way Into Jeeps for Decades. This Radiator Was Built for Exactly That. The Small Block Chevrolet V8 is one of the most proven engine swap candidates in off-road history, and the YJ and TJ are two of its most natural homes. Compact, light for its displacement, and blessed with parts availability that has never gone away, the Small Block Chevy fits the Jeep engine bay better than almost any other V8 — and makes the kind of torque these axles, transfer cases, and trail rigs were built to handle. The 350 cubic inch is the most common choice by a wide margin, and for good reason: it’s available in carbureted, TBI, and Vortec configurations spanning four decades of production, it’s cheap to build, and a well-sorted 350 in a YJ or TJ is a genuinely formidable trail rig. The 305, 327, and stroker variants like the 383 and 406 all find their way into these builds as well — each bringing its own character, and each bringing more heat than the factory inline-six or four-cylinder ever had to manage. What that means for the cooling system is straightforward: the factory radiator was never sized for a V8, and most of the generic replacement radiators on the market aren’t meaningfully better. Getting the thermal management right is one of the most important parts of a Small Block Chevrolet swap done properly. LFT — Laminar Flow Technology. Fluidyne’s YJ/TJ swap radiators use our proprietary LFT tube design — ½” tubes engineered to promote laminar coolant flow through the core rather than the turbulent, cavitation-prone flow that conventional tube designs produce. The result is more effective heat transfer per pass through the core, lower steady-state temperatures under sustained load, and a radiator genuinely sized for the output of a Small Block Chevrolet rather than the engine that came out of the Jeep. The core features a minimum of 16 fins per inch, and the aluminum tanks are built with walls exceeding .090″ thickness — significantly heavier than the industry standard. That wall thickness resists the flex and fatigue that cause leaks in thinner-walled units over time. Every seam is finished with premium TIG welds throughout, and the mirror-polished finish reflects the quality of the build underneath it. Includes a billet aluminum radiator cap, and the unit is compatible with factory transmission cooler connections.
